Bement Community Unit School District 5 Board of Education met Dec. 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Bement Community Unit School District 5 Board of Education was held Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the cafeteria. The meeting was called to order by board president Todd Scott at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present were Todd Scott, Janice Fogerson, Denise Strack, Trixie Stoerger-Flavin, Kyle Rogers and Layna Somers. Board member Jeff Funk was absent.

The Bulldog Minute speaker was Leeann Miller, a therapist working in the district from Piatt County Mental Health.

Mr. Kepley gave his middle school/high school principal’s report on the sophomore job shadowing unit, homecoming and FAFSA completion night for college bound students and parents.

Mr. Cline gave his assistant principal/AD’s report on middle school and high school athletics.

Dr. Greenwood gave her Prek-5 principal’s report on the PAWsitive Behavior Program.

Dr. Greenwood gave her superintendent’s report on painting the elementary school dormers, the commendable recommendation received by each school, the upcoming REAP Grant visit and the Teacher Leadership Team.

A motion was made by Rogers and seconded by Stoerger-Flavin that the closed session minutes of the September 18, 2019 regular meeting of the board of education be approved as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote.

A motion was made by Strack and seconded by Somers that the open session minutes of the September 18, 2019 regular meeting of the board of education be approved as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote.

A motion was made by Rogers and seconded by Stoerger-Flavin that the board accept and pay all bills as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote.

Dr. Greenwood and the board reviewed the treasurer’s report.

A motion was made by Scott and seconded by Rogers that the board approve the hiring of John Karnes as a full time custodian. Motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote.

A motion was made by Rogers and seconded by Fogerson that the board adjourn at 7:37 p.m. Motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote.
