CITY OF MONTICELLO: City Seeking Resident Input on Recreational Cannabis

Marijua

City of Monticello issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.

The State of Illinois has legalized the craft growing, cultivation, transportation, infusing, and dispensing (sale) of recreational cannabis from properly licensed facilities and in limited quantities, to persons 21 years of age and older. This state statute will be effective on January 1, 2020. In August of 2019, these cannabis businesses were able to begin submitting applications for state licensure.

Local governments were granted the authority to "opt out" and prohibit cannabis businesses OR the local government could permit, regulate, and tax cannabis businesses by such means as allowed by State statute.

** Please note, similar to alcohol consumption, individuals 21 years of age and over may use recreational cannabis as allowed by state statute, regardless of the City's decision on this issue.

Take the poll.
