CITY OF MONTICELLO: Notice of Public Hearing July 22

City of Monticello issued the following announcement on July 7.

The City of Monticello is considering adopting a Business District Plan for the proposed Monticello Business District (pursuant to the Business District Development and Redevelopment Law constituting Section 65 ILCS 5/11-74.3-1, et seq., as amended).

A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 22, 2019, at City Hall, 210 N Hamilton, Monticello, Illinois 61856.

In order to implement the activities covered by the Monticello Business District, the Business District Plan must be adopted.

The geographical boundaries of the Monticello Business District are as follows:

The proposed Business District encompasses 190 parcels of property in the downtown portion of the City. Generally, the Business District Area takes in parcels of property from N Railroad St east to Buchanan St along Bridge St/W Center St, and parcels along IL-105 from E High St south to W Marion St, including blocks of parcels between Park and Buchanan Streets. The Business District is legally described in Exhibit A.

The Monticello Business District Plan provides for public investment and private investment in public infrastructure and other statutory eligible activities. A copy of the Business District Plan, which includes a boundary map of the Business District, is available for public inspection at the City Clerk’s office located at 210 N Hamilton, Monticello, Illinois 61856.

Within the District a rate of tax of 1.0% shall be imposed as a retailer’s occupation tax and service occupation tax pursuant to Subsection (10) and (11) of Section 11-74.3-3 of the Act. Such tax shall be imposed for up to, but no more than, 23 years.

All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard at the public hearing. We are interested in any comments you may have regarding this proposed plan.
