RANTOUL AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: RACC Lifetime Achievement Award

Achievements

Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 1Jan. 17.

Huge Gratitude to Illinois State Representative Mike Marron for collaboration with Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce in planning and presentation to Leonard and Lorraine Wirges the RACC Lifetime Achievement Award (11/09/2018) and an Illinois State House of Representatives Proclamation (1/162019) in recognize of that award and lifetimes of dedication to country and the Village of Rantoul. Additional Gratitude to Mayor Smith for added collaboration with the RACC in Presentation of official Village of Rantoul Proclamation of January 16, 2019 as Leonard and Lorraine Wirges Day.

Village of Rantoul Proclamation :

Whereas, Leonard Wirges moved to Rantoul in 1959 with his wife, Lorraine and their three children to become an instructor at Chanute Air Force Base, teaching maintenance on diesel engines, firetrucks and other equipment and traveling with the teaching team worldwide; and,

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Wirges have made Rantoul their home for over 70 years, is a World War II Veteran and a member of the Rantoul VFW Post 6750; and

Whereas Mr. and Mrs. Wirges are long time members of St. Malachy Parish and the Knights of Columbus; and,

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Wirges were instrumental in Rantoul obtaining the status of Tree City USA which it has held for over 30 years, serves on the Tree Commission, are members of the Rantoul Garden Club and have participated in

the planting of a tree each year for Arbor Day; and,

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs.Wirges have worked with the National Garden Club to place several Blue Star Markers honoring the men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services at Rest Stops in Illinois and at the Rantoul Municipal Building and,

Now therefore, I, Charles Smith, Mayor of Rantoul, do hereby proclaim January 16, 2019 as Leonard and Lorraine Wirges Day in Rantoul in recognition and thanks for their many contributions to Rantoul over the years and encourage the citizen to extend their thanks on this occasion.
