CHAMPAIGN CITY COUNCIL: Police Seek the Public’s Help to Identify Bank Robbery Suspect

Champaign City Council issued the following announcement on June 29.

Today at approximately 5:01 PM, Champaign Police responded to Chase Bank, located at 201 W. University Ave., for a reported bank robbery.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. An undetermined amount of currency was given to the suspect before he fled on foot. A weapon was not implied or displayed, and no injuries were reported.

Champaign Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect who was described by bank staff as a:

• Thin, White male

• Approximately 40 years of age

• Shaved head

• Wearing shorts and a green t-shirt

The Champaign Police Department is aware that the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bank robbery that occurred earlier today at approximately 4:41 PM at First State Bank, located at 101 Windsor Road in Champaign. Both incidents and suspect descriptions are similar, and investigators are working to determine if these incidents are related.

Champaign Police asks that anyone with information regarding this incident, or the identity of the suspect, to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.

Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by phone at: 217-373-8477 (TIPS); online at www.373tips.com; or the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

Champaign Police reminds citizens that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. Calls are routed to a third-party national call center that receives your information, completes a tips information form, and then passes the information to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Caller ID tracking is not utilized by Crime Stoppers and conversations are not recorded.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
