Village of Belgium Public Safety Committee met Jan. 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

1) Silence all cell phones

2) Call to Order and roll call of Officers: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Committee Chair Gail Kowalkowski. Trustee Rose Sauers and Pete Anzia were also present. Also in attendance were Village Marshall Leon Anzia, and Village Clerk, Julie Lesar. A quorum was established.

3) Open Meeting Law Compliance Check: This meeting is in compliance with the Open Meetings Law of the State of Wisconsin.

4) Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, Moment of Silence: All in attendance stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

5) Approval of Minutes:

i) Public Safety Committee Meeting, November 9, 2017 – Motion was made by Kowalkowski and seconded by Sauers to approve November 5, 2017 committee meeting minutes. Ayes – Kowalkowski and Sauers;

Noes – none, Abstain – P. Anzia. Motion carried.

6) Agenda Items:

a) Discuss & review Village Marshal report: The committee has requested Marshal Anzia to include in his report all stops and interactions with Village residents to provide documentation of incidents.

b) Review Fire Chief’s Report: The report was accepted.

c) Review of 2017 budget: the report was briefly reviewed. Lesar noted the deficit of $2,859 for year end.

d) Make recommendation to Village Board regarding representative to serve on the Ozaukee County Hazard Mitigation Local Planning Team: Kowalkowski stated concerns that this expense for meeting attendance has not been budgeted for 2018. The committee discussed the benefits of having someone from the Fire Department attend these meetings or possibly the Village Clerk or Treasurer. Kowalkowski made a motion to recommend that the full Village Board review and discuss this issue. Motion was seconded by Sauers. Ayes – Kowalkowski, Sauers, and P. Anzia; Noes – none; Abstain – none. Motion carried.

e) Closed Session

i) A motion was made by Kowalkowski and seconded by Sauers to convene to closed session at 7:15 pm per $19.85 (1) (c) – for the purpose of job performance review for Village employee for 2017. The trustees were

polled: Ayes – Kowalkowski, P. Anzia, and Sauers; Noes – none; Abstain – none. Motion carried

ii) The committee reconvened to open session at 7:30 pm.

iii) Actions relative to Closed Session: The committee agreed to file the evaluation as completed and signed by Village Marshal Anzia.

Motion to Adjourn: A motion to adjourn at 7:32 pm was made by Kowalkowski and seconded by Sauers. Ayes – Kowalkowski, P. Anzia, and Sauers; Noes – none; Abstain – none. Motion carried.
