City of Gibson City Council met Feb. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Mayor Daniel E. Dickey.

Others present: Police Chief Adam Rosendahl, City Superintendent Randy Stauffer, Attorney Marc Miller, Jan Hall, Jason Moore, Ross Brown, Media, Kristin Metzler, Police Sergeant Kaleb Kraft, Police Officer Jeff Metzler, Police Lieutenant Tony Row, Mike Friend, Farnsworth Group and Administrative Assistant Peggy Stalter.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Randy Wyant.

Approval of Council Minutes: Alderman Laura Miller motioned to approve the minutes of January 22, 2018; seconded by Alderman Nelda Jordan. MC 8-0.

Mayor Dickey recognized visitors: Jan Hall who requested that the Council consider lettering the Jordan Industrial Park sign. The council asked Superintendent Stauffer to get prices and the request be put on the February 26, 2018 agenda to be considered. Mike Friend with Farnsworth Group dropped off information about a grant seminary Farnsworth held.

Treasurer’s Report: No report.

Administrative Report: Administrative Assistant Peggy Stalter - No report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Ordinance Committee –Alderman Nelda Jordan - No report.

Street and Alley – Alderman Doug Parsons - No report.

Police/Health, Light and Nuisance – Alderman Brandon Roderick - No report.

Finance/Efficiency Committee – Alderman Scott Davis – No report.

Personnel Committee – Alderman Dennis Pardick – No report

Water and Sewer – Alderman Randy Wyant – No report.

Parks and Buildings/Technology –Alderman Susie Tongate – Reported there have been businesses interested in advertising on the Gibson City App. She presented ad options and ad guidelines to the council.

Economic and Industrial Development – Alderman Laura Miller – No report

OLD BUSINESS: None

APPROVAL OF BILLS:

General Bills totaling $141,684.32. Alderman Brandon Roderick motioned to approve the general bills totaling $141,684.32; seconded by Doug Parsons. MC 8-0.

NEW BUSINESS:

Consideration to provide championship signs to the IHSA Class 2017 Football Champions Team members, Managers, Cheerleaders and Coaches and two highway signs not to exceed $1,500.00. Alderman Randy Wyant motioned to make the signs not to exceed $1,500; second by Alderman Susie Tongate. MC 8-0.

Consideration to Purchase a used police vehicle. Chief Rosendahl explained the department was down a car since they had sold the old Chrysler 300. They were able to find a used 2010 Chevy Impala with 27,000 miles for $9,400.00 this vehicle will be paid for out of the DUI find. Alderman Brandon Roderick motioned to purchase the used vehicle not to exceed $9,400.00 and that the DUI fund be used for the purchase; second by Alderman Scott Davis. MC 8-0.

Consideration of an Ordinance Changing the Residency Requirement for City Employees. Discussion was held over extending the residency mileage radius requirements for all employees. Alderman Nelda Jordan motioned to extend residential mileage radius to 20 miles for all city employees; second by Alderman Scott Davis. MC 8-0.

Alderman Dennis Pardick motioned to enter into Executive Session to consider the employment and compensation of one or more City employees; seconded by Alderman Scott Davis. MC 8-0.

Return to open session for the approval of employment and compensation of one or more City employees. Alderman Dennis Pardick motioned to hire Jason Moore as a full-time police officer. Starting wage at $22.54/hr. as 5 years of service officer plus full benefits however he would start with zero vacation time and the two personal days. His starting date will be February 26, 2018; seconded by Alderman Brandon Roderick. MC 8-0

ADJOURN: Alderman Dennis Pardick motioned to adjourn; seconded by Alderman Brandon Roderick. Council was poled with 8 ayes/ 0 objections.
