Bismarck Henning Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met September 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Community Unit School District No. 1 was called to order by President, Dave Clapp at 7:12 p.m. in the Ellen R. Morris Board Room. The following members were in attendance:

Steve Lane Maridith Hearnley Cheryl Brumett

Dave Clapp Tricia Hagley Ron Winkler

Audience members present were: Laura Girton, Rusty Campbell, Jim and Sheryl Ribbe.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve the agenda of the September 14 regular board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion was made by Steve Lane, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve the minutes of the board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Steve Lane to approve the bills of the month. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Activity fund balances were approved.

Sixth Day Enrollment information was discussed. Enrollment is 942 compared to 930 last year.

Information presented on the January 1, 2018 increases for the district IERMP health insurance renewal. The rates will be 7.95% higher. The board will pick up half of the increase per month. Employees will be paying the remainder of the renewal amount. Motion by Steve Lane, second by Tricia Hagley to approve the health insurance renewal rates. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Rusty Campbell, JH principal presented information about the after-school program in the junior high. He discussed Eagle Hour, RTi starting September 18, DARE and we still need a 7th grade English teacher.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Cheryl Brumett to give approval for the FY 2018 Budget. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Cooperative High School update information was presented by Scott Watson.

Foundation information was updated. The IRS has paperwork and have 180 days to complete.

There was some discussion on the by-laws of the foundation.

Jim Ribbe, Director of Building and Grounds, provided details of the work done in the building this summer and the costs savings from the previous year. We are looking into grants for solar panels.

VASE/College Express - A report showing the number of students enrolled in College Express from county schools was presented.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to approve the resignation of Stacey Fisher, 7th grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve the resignation of Nicolle Shay, elementary P.E. teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Steve Lane to approve the resignation of Byron Claypool, custodian, as of September 12, 2017. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Ron Winkler to approve Cherlle Ruffo as JH volunteer cheerleading sponsor for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Steve Lane to approve Amy Hegg, as JH volunteer cheerleading sponsor for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Information presented about Murad Abbed, substitute P.E. teacher at the elementary school. He is taking classes and completing observation hours. He is planning to complete his elementary P.E. certification.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to adjourn meeting at 7:45 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
