Danville police conducting armed Intruder preparedness workshop

The Danville Police Department and Cmdr. Chris Yates will host a one-day emergency preparedness and response training session for local business and industry leaders on Jan. 17.

Participants will learn what to do when confronted by an armed intruder and how to develop a safety plan that works best for their organization or business, a posting on the Danville Area Community College website said. 

Yates and the police department will teach participates about concepts of workplace violence, dynamics of violent critical incidents, how to spot an "at-risk employee" and how to detect "suspicious stranger" threats. Using this information, the instructors will teach participants how to create a safety plan and how to maintain a relaxed but vigilant workplace, the posting said.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon Jan 17. at Danville Area Community College, Bremer Conference Center Room 109/110. The cost is $35 per person. Businesses who send more five or more participants will receive a 10 percent discount. Interested parties can register by calling 217- 554-1628 or register online on the college's website.
