Parkland Community College Trustee Rochelle Harding should not get to choose whether to remain as a trustee or a college employee, the Edgar County Watchdogs contend following a recent court ruling that Harding cannot maintain both roles.
A Champaign County judge determined on Aug. 23 that Rolling was holding incompatible positions and offered her the opportunity to choose the position in which she would continue to serve. On its Illinois Leaks website, the ECW applauds the ruling but cites case law in arguing that by accepting the position of trustee, Rolling had resigned from her position as an employee.
The group noted precedent in a case from Tinley Park. A police officer who had been elected village trustee requested a leave of absence from the village’s police department to serve as trustee. His request was denied because in accepting his position as trustee he had resigned from the department and therefore could not take a leave of absence.
