Urbana ranked 648th in state in lottery ticket sales for April 2016

The City of Urbana had the 648th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of April 2016 -- up 19 spots from its March ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Urbana was $11.93 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Chambana Sun, Urbana generated $504,646 in net sales from its 25 lottery retailers in April 2016, compared to $539,193 in April 2015.

The City of Urbana is in Champaign County, and has a population of 42,311, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Champaign.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in April 2016 was $18,923.74.

Urbana's top lottery retailer is Schnucks #720 located at 200 N Vine St, Urbana, IL 61802.

Schnucks #720 generated 10 percent of Urbana's April 2016 lottery ticket sales and 3 percent of Champaign County's sales that month, which was $2,119,459.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Champaign County in 2015 were Ogden, Gifford, Mahomet, Rantoul and Thomasboro.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
