Representatives from eight cities met in Evansville recently to discuss the upcoming Regional Neighborhood Network Conference (RNNC).
Several also took the opportunity to praise Champaign and Urbana, which hosted last fall's conference. They pointed out the benefits of a police community forum and efforts to include a wide range of topics in the workshop.
The Evansville meeting offered the RNCC executive steering committee members the chance to provide input and technical assistance for the planning of the 2017 RNNC, which will be held October 4-5. Neighborhood Coordination staff from Champaign's Neighborhood Services Department attended the meeting.
The annual RNNC conference lets businesses, community leaders, government agencies and volunteers meet and share ideas to improve or transform their communities.
The RNNC comprises more than 20 cities from five states. It began in 1986 when Louisville and several other major Midwestern cities' representatives met and shared ideas in a two-day event.
The two main objectives of the RNNC are to give government officials a way to collaborate on issues related to managing their municipalities and to encourage the interaction and sharing of ideas by neighborhood leaders.
The cities' representatives meet twice a year at the RNNC steering committee meetings.
