Hazardous tree removed from W. Charles Street property

Tree

City of Champaign Inspector Kim Burnett recently announced that an elm tree had been removed from the residential property at 808 W. Charles St. after a follow-up inspection of the tree.

Burnett first visited the home on Sept. 27, after it was reported that limbs were dropping and there was concern the tree would fall. Upon inspection, Burnett deemed the elm tree dead and asked Forestry Supervisor Andrew Lamoreux to visit the location and give a second opinion.

Lamoreux not only found that the tree was dead, but also discovered a large cavity in the base of the tree. City officials found the tree to be hazardous based on the volume of crown on dieback and deadwood.

Burnett informed the owner he had 30 days to remove the tree. A request by the owner asking Burnett for a second opinion on the tree was permitted, but when Burnett returned to the property Nov. 21, the tree had been removed.
