Rantoul Village Board of Trustees recognize police officer for thirty years of service

The Rantoul Village Board of Trustees met Aug. 9 to recognize Officer Kevin Kaiser for his thirty years of service with the police department.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

The Rantoul Village Board meets at 6:15 p.m. on the first and second Tuesday of each month in the Louis B. Schelling Memorial Board Room at the Municipal Building, 333 S. Tanner St.

Regular Board Meeting August 9, 2016

LOUIS B. SCHELLING MEMORIAL BOARD ROOM RANTOUL MUNICIPAL BUILDING, 333 S. TANNER, RANTOUL, IL.

A regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Rantoul was held at 6:00 P.M. Mayor Charles Smith called the proceeding to order.

Invocation & Pledge of Allegiance The Invocation was given by – Reverend Rob Riklin, Bethany Park Christian Church, opening the meeting with a prayer. Following the invocation, Trustee Turner led the audience in recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call The Village Clerk called the roll, finding the following members present:

Mayor Charles Smith and Trustees, Gary Wilson, Tony Brown, Ken Turner, Jennifer Fox, Hank Gamel and Chad Smith -7.

The following representatives of Village Departments were also present: Jeffrey Fiegenschuh, Village Administrator; Scot Brandon, Comptroller; Kenneth Beth, Attorney; Dan Culkin and David Silver, Inspection; Mike Loschen, Community Development; Greg Hazel, Public Works Director; Herman Peyton, Human Resource Director; Luke Humphrey, Recreation Department; Ken Waters, Fire Chief, Ervin Blevins, Chief of Police and Mike Graham, Village Clerk.

Recognition of Rantoul Officer Kevin Kaiser Mayor Smith recognized Police Officer Kevin Kaiser with a Plaque for his thirty years of service at the Rantoul Police Department. Officer Kaiser is currently assigned to the J. W. Eater Junior High School as the School Resource Officer but is scheduled to retire from the Village of Rantoul on August 28, 2016.

Presentation by Champaign County Economic Development Corporation Don Elmore from the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation made short presentation about a program that he administers for the CEDC to help new business get started on the right foot. He currently is working with thirteen new prospective business firms, eight of which are in the Rantoul Area. Don introduced to the Board Chef Curtis McGhee from CC Kitchens which was one of Don Elmore’s previous clients. Chef Curtis operates currently out of the Java Connection Building in downtown Rantoul.

Approval of Agenda

Trustee Fox moved to approve the agenda for the meeting. Trustee Wilson seconded the motion. Motion carried, 6 - 0.

Public Participation Larry Hawkins, President of the Golf View Greens Homeowner’s Association spoke about the trees at the intersection of Maplewood and Golf View Drive. Mr. Hawkins had spoken on this subject two months ago and came back to compliment the Public Works Department as they had cleaned up all of the trees last week in his neighborhood and performed their work in a very professional and timely way. He indicated that the whole neighborhood appreciated their services.

• Approval of the Consent Agenda. Trustee Fox moved for approval and Trustee Brown seconded the motion.

• Motion to authorize and approve the bid from Stronghold Construction Incorporated in the amount of $123,300.00 for repairs to the Police Department Building. Trustee Wilson moved for approval and Trustee Gamel seconded the motion.

New Business The Administrator indicated that there would be a Special Meeting of the Rantoul Village Board on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 6:00 P.M.

Public Announcements None.

Adjournment Trustee Fox moved to adjourn the meeting and Trustee Turner seconded the motion.

MEETING ADJOURNED AT 6:28 P.M.
