The 14th Annual Champaign Urbana International Humanitarian Awards held Sept. 8 honored the works of three individuals and two organizations.
Accepting honors in the Humanitarian Relief Individual Award category were DoMonique Arnold, Omar Al-Heeti, and Leanna Cossman. The Hospitality Organizational Award was presented to Mi Raza Community Center. Walking With Angels received the Research & Education Organizational Award.
The gala was at the Hilton Garden Inn, where artwork from a previous award winner – Ten Thousand Villages – was on display. The Jasmine Field Orchestra, with the support of the University of Illinois, served as the cultural entertainment for the night. The cocktail reception and dinner hour were filled with the smooth sound of jazz music from Nate Banks and Friends, and guests were welcomed and show to their seats by participants from Lincoln’s Challenge.
