Three individuals and two organizations will receive civic honors at a community-sponsored 5:45 p.m. ceremony on Thursday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign.

The 2016 Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards (CUIHA) will be presented to Dr. Omar Al-Heeti and Leanna Cossman for humanitarian relief activities and to DoMonique Arnold for human rights. Additionally, Mi Raza Community Center will receive the award for hospitality, and Walking With Angels will be honored in the category of research and education.

The event will begin with a reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by a dinner program at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public; tickets are available at $35 apiece and must be purchased ahead of time.

To buy tickets and/or to obtain more information, contact the city of Champaign's Community Relations Office at 217-384-8830.

CUIHA is sponsored by the cities of Champaign and Urbana, with the Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards Committee. The program honors those who have contributed significantly to international understanding, cooperation, friendship and development while acknowledging Champaign County’s contributions to the agriculture, hospitality, humanitarian relief, human rights, research and education, trade and business sectors; and to educate the public about the connections between our local and global communities.
