District 3 denizens can expect to hear the Champaign City Council’s choice among seven contenders for a departing councilman’s seat within weeks.
Angela Brix, Bruce Brown, Jamar Brown, Kenton Elmore, Katherine Johnson, Pamela Peete and Gordon Tracey all filed their applications before the noon deadline on June 13, competing for just one available vacant seat on the City Council, the city of Champaign announced this week.
The vacancy was created when Vic McIntosh resigned June 1. The city accepted applications from interested citizens beginning on May 30 to select one person to serve out the remainder of McIntosh’s term in the District 3 office.
The next step in the process will involve a review of the submitted applications, followed by interviews planned for a City Council study session June 28. The Champaign City Council expects to make an announcement of their selection for McIntosh’s replacement at its July 5 meeting.
