The city of Champaign's Planning and Development Director Bruce Knight recently lead a delegation of professional planners assigned to West Melbourne, Florida to consult on downtown development.
Knight's Community Planning Assistance Team was sponsored by the American Planning Association (APA). The team was part of an APA program that sends experienced planners from around the country to places that have little or no designated planning staff members.
In West Melbourne, Knight and his team helped local officials develop land use plans for an area of their town that may someday become its designated downtown district. The team also provided insight on overall development ideas.
Knight said the experience was educational and that he hopes to apply some of what he learned to his work in Champaign.
