The Urbana City Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. today in the Urbana City Building's Council Chambers, 400 S. Vine St., to vote on whether Urbana should join a group-purchasing agreement for electricity with Good Energy LP.
The agreement would let Urbana join a pool of other municipalities to leverage the collective buying power of group purchasing to secure better prices. Several communities across the area have either approved or are considering similar agreements.
Good Energy LP officials suggest the program also promotes more stable prices and allows communities to buy up to 100 percent of their energy from renewable sources.
