Mahomet board to vote on electricity aggregation

Mahometlogo

The Mahomet Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday to vote on a new electricity buying agreement it anticipates will save the village money.

The board will vote on approving a service agreement with electricity aggregator Good Energy LP and a resolution authorizing the village to execute terms of that agreement.

If approved, Mahomet would join a growing list of communities in Illinois and other states that have bought into electrical aggregation arrangements to supply their power. Electrical aggregation works on the principal of a buying club, where a towns and cities combine their buying power to leverage larger purchases and better prices from energy companies.

Good Energy officials say its program also offers more stable prices and the option for municipalities to purchase up to 100 percent of their energy needs from renewable sources.

The meeting will be held at the Mahomet Administration Office, located at 503 E. Main St.
