Urbana's Committee of the Whole will hold a special meeting today to vote on a pair of resolutions affecting the city's electric services.
The committee will vote on a consulting agreement with Good Energy LP for electricity aggregation. Electric aggregation is a system of electricity purchasing that allows communities to join together to make a larger, less-expensive purchase of energy than they would otherwise be able to make on their own. Good Energy officials say the program is a way for municipalities to save money and secure stable prices.
The committee will also vote on accepting the lowest bid for supplying the energy used in the new program.
The new service would apply to residential and small commercial customers who do not opt out of the program and choose to seek their own service.
