The city of Champaign announced Wednesday that it has received international recognition for the quality of its budget.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the U.S. and Canada presented the city with its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Champaign is one of 1,491 local governments across the two countries to earn the award since 2014. To qualify, a budget must be rated proficient as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Each of those categories has 14 sub-criteria that must also be judged as proficient in order to win the award.
Financial Services Manager/Budget Officer Molly Talkington received a certificate of recognition for her role in leading the city's budget preparation efforts.
The GFOA is a professional association that provides more than 18,000 elected officials at all levels of government with training resources, services and products to improve government performance.
