The village of Thomasboro board held its regular meeting Oct. 5, unanimously passing an ordinance allowing recreational fires.
The board also heard from auditor Curt Liles, who summarized the annual village audit for the previous fiscal year. Auditors found the village's books to be clean, though they suggested the village consider finding ways to provide more oversight over the treasurer position by having each step of the financial process handled by a different staff member.
The board then heard a variety of committee reports. Police Chief Keith Willis confirmed that the department had put deposits down on four sets of body armor for local police. Trustee and Personel Committee Chair Mickey Wilson presented the board with a choice of renting uniforms from a service for a weekly fee or buying uniforms outright. The trustees said previous budgets allotted only $100 to $600 for uniforms, so the village will likely have to adjust its uniform budget whether renting or buying. A decision on the uniform question was tabled for a future meeting.
Following changes in state rules, the board also expressed interest in amending village code to provide regulations for non-highway vehicles driving on village roads. The state defines a non-highway vehicles as a vehicle not designed to be used on a public highway, such as all-terrain vehicles and golf carts. The village's attorney has been dispatched to draft an ordinance codifying the rules for these vehicles in Thomasboro, which will likely include a fine if caught using them on local streets.
