The Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act, a bill sponsored by U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) to expand the religions exemptions under Obamacare and approved in the House last month, is now being considered in the Senate.

H.R. 2061 will exempt individuals who rely on religious healing and do not use medical health care services because of their religious beliefs from having to buy health insurance under the Affordable Care Act or face a tax penalty.

“Obamacare violates our most basic right of religious freedom by forcing people to buy health insurance against their faith or otherwise face a penalty,” Davis said “The EACH Act broadens the religious exemption to ensure those who rely solely on a religious method of healing, like Christian Scientists, are not forced to purchase health insurance when these services violate their religious beliefs."

The bill, which is currently being reviewed by the Senate Finance Committee, is of particular importance to Davis because of his affiliation with Christian Scientists.

"As the representative of Principia College, the only Christian Scientist school in the country, I believe this legislation is vital to protecting the religious liberties of many of my constituents," he said.
