Illinois women’s tennis concluded its participation in the ITA Midwest Regional tournament on Monday, with Tess Bucher and Alice Xu exiting in the doubles semifinals. The event featured outdoor doubles matches and indoor singles play at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Bucher and Xu lost the opening set 6-2 but recovered to win the second set 6-4. In a closely contested super tiebreak, both teams held leads before Northwestern’s Dagan Fruchtman and Feldman secured a 10-8 victory on their third match point.
Despite the loss, Bucher and Xu have qualified for the ITA Sectionals scheduled for November 6-9 in College Station, Texas. McKenna Schaefbauer also earned a spot at sectionals after reaching the singles quarterfinals.
The ITA Midwest Regional will conclude Tuesday with the doubles championship at 10 a.m. outdoors and the singles final at 1 p.m. indoors.
