The University of Illinois men's tennis team will compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Chicago from October 16 to 20. The tournament, hosted by DePaul at the XS Tennis Village, will feature four Illinois student-athletes participating in both singles and doubles matches.
Sasha Colleu will begin play in the singles qualifying bracket on Thursday. Adam Jilly, Hayden Jones, and Jeremy Zhang are scheduled to start their singles campaigns in the main draw on Friday. In doubles, Colleu will partner with Jilly, while Jones teams up with Zhang.
This single-elimination tournament is one of four events that serve as qualifying paths for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which are set for November 18-23 in Orlando, Florida. The two singles finalists and the doubles champions from the ITA Midwest Regional will secure spots in the NCAA Championships.
Hayden Jones will make his collegiate debut at this event, while Colleu, Jilly, and Zhang return after competing at the Hope College RSM Invite earlier this month, where they achieved a combined eight singles wins, including undefeated records for Jilly and Zhang.
Colleu and Jilly are seeking their first win as a doubles pair, while Jones and Zhang, both from Australia, will play together in doubles for the first time since their junior circuit days in Australia.
Illinois will compete alongside athletes from several other schools, including Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Illinois State, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, UIC, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, and Youngstown State.
The tournament opens with two rounds of singles qualifying on Thursday before moving into the main draws for both singles and doubles on Friday. Finals are scheduled for Monday. The event is open to the public with complimentary parking available.
