On October 6, 2025, the Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a 16-unit multi-family apartment building located in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive. The incident occurred at approximately 3:54 p.m.
According to officials, firefighters arrived after receiving reports of smoke coming from a utility room in the two-story building. Upon arrival, crews found smoke present in several apartments and began searching for its source. They discovered that the fire was hidden within the walls between apartment units.
A second alarm was called as multiple hose lines were extended to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were able to quickly locate and put out the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, as investigators are still working at the scene. One resident received treatment on site and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. No injuries among firefighters were reported.
