The University of Illinois men's golf team, ranked No. 12 nationally, secured its first team victory of the season at the Windon Memorial Classic held at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Illini finished with a total score of 828, which is 36 under par and marks the program's fourth-lowest 54-hole score recorded during a fall tournament.

All five golfers in the Illini lineup placed among the top 15. Junior Max Herendeen led the group with a runner-up finish after shooting a 10-under-par 206. Herendeen was bogey-free in his final round and completed his last 34 holes without dropping a shot. Sophomore Trey Marrion posted his best career result by tying for fifth place with a score of 207, nine under par.

Sophomore Freddie Turnell, who played as an individual in his debut event but made his first appearance in the main lineup this week, tied for eleventh place with a six-under-par score of 210. Junior Dane Huddleston and senior Ryan Voois both tied for fourteenth after finishing at five under par (211). Huddleston moved up during Round 3 by shooting four under par with five birdies and no bogeys over his last sixteen holes.

True freshman Dujuan Snyman competed as an individual and ended tied for sixty-sixth place with a six-over-par total of 222. He started strong with an opening-round score of four under but fell back in subsequent rounds.

Illinois achieved head-to-head wins over fifteen programs during this event, including seven teams that were either ranked or received votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll. The Illini finished six strokes ahead of New Mexico, which is ranked twenty-second nationally. Other notable teams included Ohio State and Northwestern from the Big Ten Conference, as well as Notre Dame.

Looking ahead, Illinois will compete at the Moraine Intercollegiate hosted by Miami (Ohio) on October 13-14 at Moraine Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
