The University of Illinois men's golf team, ranked 12th nationally, leads the Windon Memorial Classic after two rounds at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Illini are 24-under par through 36 holes and hold a four-stroke advantage going into Tuesday's final round.
Senior Ryan Voois is in third place individually at seven under par after posting rounds of 67 and 70. Voois had a bogey-free opening round and maintained a clean scorecard until his first bogey late in the second round. He finished Day 1 three shots off the individual lead.
Juniors Max Herendeen and sophomore Trey Marrion are tied for sixth at six under par. Herendeen overcame an early bogey to finish with five birdies over his last sixteen holes, while Marrion rebounded from an initial bogey to shoot four under across his final seventeen holes.
Sophomore Freddie Turnell, making his first appearance in the starting lineup for Illinois, sits one stroke behind Herendeen and Marrion at five under par after recording rounds of 69 and 70.
Junior Dane Huddleston is tied for thirty-third at one under par alongside freshman Dujuan Snyman, who is competing as an individual entrant.
Of the eighty-seven golfers participating in the event, eighty-six completed their second round on Monday. Notre Dame’s Christopher Bagnall will finish his round on Tuesday morning before play resumes for the final eighteen holes. Live scoring updates can be accessed via Clippd Scoreboard.
Ryan Voois commented on his performance: "My goal was to stay patient out there and not force anything. I managed my game well until those late bogeys but bounced back nicely with some birdies."
Head coach Mike Small stated: "We put ourselves in a good position going into tomorrow. The guys handled themselves well throughout both rounds today."
The Illini will look to secure victory when play concludes on Tuesday.
