Champaign hosts annual conference addressing Black mental health challenges

On September 20, 2025, the Champaign County Community Coalition’s Race Relations Subcommittee held the 3rd Annual Black Mental Health and Wellness Conference at Parkland College. The event focused on mental health challenges faced by the Black community and provided support, education, and resources for individuals and families.

The conference featured sessions on topics such as addictive behaviors and mental health, the impact of domestic violence, and the role of the Black church in mental health. Staff from both the Equity and Engagement Department and Neighborhood Services Department participated in the event to demonstrate their commitment to engaging with the community.

A statement from organizers read: "We extend our sincere gratitude to our valued partners—Parkland College, Champaign Unit 4 School District, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, Urbana School District 116, Urbana Rotary, the University of Illinois, Regional Planning Commission, the Housing Authority of Champaign County, the Campus-Community Compact to Accelerate Social Justice, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, United Way, and Champaign-Urbana Public Health District."

Organizers credited collaboration among these local organizations for providing meaningful resources to attendees.
