On September 19 and 20, 2025, the Community Safety and Justice Division, in partnership with the SU Institute HEEAR and members of its evaluation team, visited the Chicago Mayor’s Office of Community Safety. The two-day meeting focused on sharing strategies for gun violence prevention, community violence interventions, and broader efforts to improve safety and justice.
Representatives from Champaign presented their Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint as well as details about their evaluation process. The group also toured local organizations and neighborhoods in Chicago that have been affected by gun violence. According to participants, these discussions and site visits were intended to support future collaboration between Champaign and Chicago officials.

The meetings are part of ongoing efforts by both cities to address public safety challenges through shared learning and coordinated action.
