Illinois women's soccer, ranked 18th by Top Drawer Soccer, experienced its first loss of the season on Sunday in Seattle, falling 2-1 to Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium. The defeat moves Illinois' record to 8-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Big Ten play, while Washington improves to 5-1-4 and 2-0-1 in conference games.
The match began unfavorably for Illinois when an own goal in the 12th minute put them behind early. Washington extended their lead with a second goal in the 54th minute.
Cayla Jackson scored for Illinois in the 61st minute following a corner kick. After a scramble inside the box, Jackson found the ball and scored her fourth goal of the season. Despite this effort, Illinois was unable to equalize.
Washington outshot Illinois with 18 attempts compared to seven from the Illini. Goalkeeper Izzy Lee recorded four saves on five shots on target.
Illinois will return home to Demirjian Park on Thursday, September 25, where they are scheduled to face No. 8 Penn State at 7 p.m. Central Time.
