Illinois State Senator Chapin Rose is inviting Illinois residents to participate in the “Honoring All Who Served” Veterans Day Display at the Illinois State Capitol Rotunda. The event will take place from October 28 through November 13, coinciding with Veterans Day on November 11.

The display aims to pay tribute to veterans from across the state by showcasing their photographs and stories. Rose encourages people to submit a photo and a short story of up to 250 words about a veteran who has made an impact in their lives. Submissions should include the veteran’s name, military branch, and the conflict in which they served.

Rose stated, “Illinois’ veterans deserve nothing less than our deepest honor, respect, and remembrance. These brave men and women dedicated their lives to protecting our country, safeguarding our freedom, and defending others around the world. While we can never fully repay their sacrifice, we can ensure their stories live on, teaching future generations about the extraordinary impact our heroes have had on the fabric of our state and our nation.”

He added, “To do just that, our office is hosting the ‘Honoring All Who Served’ Veterans Day Display in the Illinois State Capitol Rotunda. From Tuesday, October 28 through Thursday, November 13, the Capitol will be transformed into a powerful tribute, sharing the photographs and stories of veterans from across Illinois. With Veterans Day on November 11, this display is the perfect opportunity to shine a light on your loved one’s courage and service before thousands of visitors.”

Rose asked for public participation: “I am asking you directly, please take part by submitting a story and photograph of a veteran who has touched your life. Your submission should include a photo and a short story of no more than 250 words, along with the veteran’s name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, or Navy), and the conflict in which they served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime or other). While military photos are especially meaningful they are not required.”

“All submissions must be received by Friday October 24 2024,” Rose said. Submissions may be emailed to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov or mailed to Veterans Day Wall at 110D Statehouse Springfield IL 62706; questions can be directed to (217) 782-1154.

“This display is more than pictures and words it is a living tribute to the men and women whose service has shaped our state and safeguarded our future,” Rose said. “Let’s make sure your veteran’s story is among those honored.”

Rose has represented Illinois’ 51st Senate District since his election in 2013 as a Republican senator replacing Kyle McCarter. More information about Senator Rose's career can be found at https://www.ilga.gov/senate/Senator.asp?GA=103&MemberID=3161.
