Illini men's tennis collects five wins at Battle In The Bay

Adam Jilly and Kenta Miyoshi represented the University of Illinois at the Battle In The Bay tennis tournament in San Francisco, earning a total of five wins over four days.

Miyoshi progressed to the singles main draw, while Jilly recorded his first collegiate singles and doubles victories during the event.

On the opening day, both players were defeated in their doubles main draw match by Stanford's Nicholas Godsick and Hudson Rivera. Miyoshi then won his singles match against Cal's Lenn Luemkemann in three sets, advancing to the second round. Jilly pushed Michigan State’s Ozan Baris to three sets but ultimately lost.

The following day, Jilly and Miyoshi secured their first doubles win together against Cal’s Bernardo Munk Mesa and Lenn Luemkemann in the consolation bracket. In singles play, Miyoshi defeated Texas’ Lucas Marionneau in straight sets and then went on to win another two-set match against Boise State’s Filip Soderqvist, reaching Saturday’s semifinals. Jilly notched his first collegiate singles win by beating Arizona State’s Jelani Sarr in three sets.

On Saturday, the pair lost their doubles consolation semifinal to San Diego’s Stian Klaassen and Adrien Berrut. In singles action, Miyoshi was eliminated by TCU’s Duncan Chan in the semifinals, while Jilly finished his tournament with a loss to Berrut.

Miyoshi ended with multiple wins in both main draw and quarterfinal rounds before falling in the semifinals. Jilly marked a milestone with his initial collegiate victories at this event.
