The Champaign Police Department recently concluded a traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving. The initiative ran from August 15 to September 2 and was conducted in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies.
Officers dedicated 46 hours to enforcement during this period, focusing on main roads that affect neighborhoods. As a result of these efforts, police made two arrests for driving under the influence. They also issued 31 citations for speeding, seven for driving without insurance, five for driving without a valid license, one for distracted driving, and 12 citations for other moving violations such as expired registration.
The campaign was supported by federal traffic safety funds managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
