Illinois women's golf fifth after first day at Wolverine Invitational

Illinois women's golf team finished the first day of the Wolverine Invitational in fifth place with a team score of 587 (+19) after 36 holes in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Brielle Mapanao led Illinois, recording a 74 (+3) in the first round and an even-par 71 in the second. She is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard going into the final day. Anna Ritter posted a 71 (E) in her opening round and a 75 (+4) in her second, placing her in 13th, one stroke behind Mapanao.

Freshman Alexis Myers made her debut with a notable hole-in-one on hole eight during the first round. She finished with scores of 74 (+3) and 73 (+2), tying for 16th. Erica Lee is tied for 27th after rounds of 76 (+5) and 73 (+2). Victoria Zheng sits tied for 55th following rounds of 76 (+5) and 78 (+7).

Competing as an individual, Tavia Burgess is tied for 69th with rounds of 80 (+9) and 78 (+7).

The Fighting Illini will return to play Monday morning for the third and final round, starting at 7:45 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
