Brad Underwood, head coach of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team, has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Board of Directors. Underwood is among nine head coaches from across NCAA divisions who began their terms on September 2 by attending the NABC Board of Directors fall meeting.

The new board members for 2025-26 include Scott Drew from Baylor, Dan Evans from North Georgia, James Jones from Yale, Charles Katsiaficas from Pomona-Pitzer, Ritchie McKay from Liberty, Mark Pope from Kentucky, Jon Scheyer from Duke, and Micah Shrewsberry from Notre Dame.

The NABC Board of Directors provides strategic oversight for the association’s daily operations and advocacy work. Its membership represents all three NCAA divisions as well as the NAIA, two-year colleges, and high school levels.

"As college athletics and the game of basketball undergo unprecedented transformation, it's vital that coaches continue to present a unified voice and demonstrate sound national leadership," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "These nine coaches were identified by their peers as ideal candidates to represent our over 5,000 members on the NABC Board of Directors, and their diverse perspectives will strengthen the NABC's efforts to support the profession and grow the sport."

Minnesota State head coach Matt Margenthaler is serving as president of the board for 2025-26. The full roster is available on the NABC website.

The NABC serves more than 5,000 members in collegiate, scholastic and youth basketball. Founded in 1927 by Phog Allen at the University of Kansas—himself a student of James Naismith—the organization advocates for coaches at all levels and promotes core values such as leadership and inclusion.
