Illinois soccer secured a 1-0 win over Boston College in its home opener at Demirjian Park on Monday. The victory brings Illinois’ record to 3-0-0, while Boston College moves to 2-1-1.
The only goal of the match came in the 57th minute when Sarah Foley scored her first goal of the season. Foley chased down a clearance from Ashley Stellon, outran a defender, and scored with her left foot after cutting inside the box. This marked Foley’s eighth career game-winning goal and her 16th overall for Illinois.
Goalkeeper Izzy Lee recorded her third consecutive shutout, making three saves during the match. This clean sheet is Lee’s eighth in her career and extends her longest active shutout streak. She is close to matching her single-season high of four shutouts set last year.
Illinois created early chances with Emma Yee taking a shot nine minutes into the game and Ashlyn Adams forcing a save from Boston College’s goalkeeper in the 33rd minute. The teams were scoreless at halftime.
In the second half, Illinois continued to press offensively. Sutton Webb forced a leaping save from the Eagles’ keeper following a corner kick in the 53rd minute, and two minutes later, Yee hit the crossbar.
After Foley’s goal, Illinois limited Boston College to just one shot on target for the remainder of the match. Attendance at Demirjian Park was reported as 1,083.
Illinois will next play DePaul in Chicago on Thursday, August 28 at Wish Field, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
