The University of Illinois men's golf program will have a strong presence at the 125th U.S. Open. Alumni and PGA Tour veterans Thomas Detry and Brian Campbell, along with recent graduate Jackson Buchanan, are set to compete this week at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Although they will not be playing together in the first two rounds as they did last year, the three golfers will tee off within 55 minutes of each other on Thursday and Friday. The trio has achieved eight All-America selections and three Big Ten Golfer of the Year awards collectively during their time at Illinois.

Thomas Detry, ranked 35th in the world, is making his fourth appearance at the U.S. Open after qualifying based on his top-60 position in the OWGR as of May 19. His previous performances include finishing T49 at Winged Foot in 2020 and T14 at Pinehurst last year. Detry begins his rounds at 7:02 a.m. CT on Thursday and 12:47 p.m. CT on Friday.

Brian Campbell qualified for his fourth U.S. Open by being among the top five players in the 2025 FedEx Cup standings as of May 19. He made his debut in this tournament back in 2014 but missed the cut that year. Last year, he finished T56 upon returning to Pinehurst. Campbell's tee times are set for 7:13 a.m. CT on Thursday and 12:58 p.m. CT on Friday.

Jackson Buchanan earned his spot through local qualifying in Atlanta with an impressive two-round total score of -18 to tie for first place. This marks Buchanan's professional debut following a successful collegiate career where he was named Big Ten Golfer of the Year for 2024 and received several accolades including the Byron Nelson Award and GCAA PING All-America honorable mention selection. He starts his rounds at 7:57 a.m. CT on Thursday followed by a round starting at 1:42 p.m. CT on Friday.

Elsewhere, Thomas Pieters recently secured another individual T4 finish last week at LIV Virginia, boosting him to 16th place in LIV's individual season standings.

Adrien Dumont de Chassart posted a T14 finish last week at BMW Charity Pro-Am after starting strong with an eight-under-par score in Round One.

Steve Stricker hosted the American Family Insurance Championship alongside Mario Tiziani, finishing tied for second place despite limited appearances this season due to injury concerns.
