Fighting Illini sophomore Max Herendeen completed the NCAA Championship stroke play round on Monday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. Herendeen finished tied for 27th place with a 72-hole score of 290 (+2).

Herendeen qualified as one of the top nine individuals from non-advancing teams after Sunday's third round reduced the field from 30 to 15 teams. He scored a final round of 73 (+1), marking his second consecutive individual top-30 national finish, following his runner-up position as a freshman.

Hailing from Bellevue, Washington, Herendeen responded to an initial bogey on Hole 10 with a birdie on No. 11. A subsequent stretch involving a bogey and double-bogey on Holes 12 and 13 pushed him to four-over-par with 14 holes remaining.

He concluded the back nine with birdies on Holes 16 and 18, countered a bogey on No. 3 with consecutive birdies on Holes 5 and 6, returning to one-over for the week tied for 23rd place. However, after parring Nos. 7 and 8, a bogey on No. 9 placed him just outside the top-25.

The individual national title was claimed by Ole Miss' Michael La Sasso (-11). The Rebels join Illinois, Oklahoma State, Florida, and Georgia Tech as programs that have produced multiple individual national champions during the Mike Small era (since 2001).
