Fighting Illini softball team faced a 4-1 defeat against #21 Ohio State in their final game of the 2025 season at Eichelberger Field on Saturday. With this loss, the Illini ended the season with a 22-28 overall record and a 6-15 conference mark. On the other side, the Buckeyes, ranked 21st, held a 43-11-1 overall record and were 16-6 in Big Ten play.
In the match, Yazzy Avila recorded an RBI while going 1-for-2. Teammates Delaney Mosley and Gabrielle Debevec also secured hits during the game but could not alter the outcome.
The conclusion of the 2025 season also marked the farewell for four seniors from the team: Stevie Meade, Paige Berkmeyer, Lauren Wiles, and Zoie Howard.
Stevie Meade leaves notable marks in the program's history, holding records for both career and single-season sacrifice hits with 32. Meanwhile, Paige Berkmeyer ranks third all-time for having caught 41 runners stealing throughout her career. Lauren Wiles' tenure sees her listed sixth in the team's records with 114 appearances.
