The Illinois men's tennis team concluded its 2025 season with a defeat in the NCAA Tournament’s first round, falling to the University of Oklahoma. The tournament, held at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas, saw No. 24 Oklahoma secure a dominant 4-0 victory against Illinois.
Under the guidance of head coach Brad Dancer, Illinois made its 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The match began with Oklahoma gaining an early advantage by winning the doubles point on Courts 1 and 3. The pair of Kenta Miyoshi and Max Mroz provided a glimmer of hope for Illinois, winning their match on Court 2 with a 6-3 result against Oklahoma's Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez.
In singles competition, Oklahoma secured three consecutive victories on Courts 2, 3, and 5, closing out the match. The Illini end their season with a record of 15-12.
The final results saw Oklahoma's Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene triumph over Illinois's Tyler Bowers and Mathis Debru in doubles, while Illinois achieved a solitary doubles victory through Miyoshi and Mroz. In singles, Oklahoma's players dominated, with critical wins from Kholo Montsi, Luis Alvarez, and Alejandro Melero.
