Illinois began their Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament with a decisive 4-0 victory over Northwestern. This win marked Illinois' seventh consecutive triumph over the Wildcats and was their ninth sweep of the season.
The victory helped Illinois advance its record to 14-11 for the season while Northwestern fell to 13-13. The match took place in Ojai, California, and emphasized Illinois' strength away from home, noting their sixth away win this year.
Illinois secured the doubles point for the 17th time this season. McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber claimed a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, and Megan Heuser and Kida Ferrari won their match with the same score, improving their record to 10-11.
Schaefbauer also delivered a win in singles, sweeping her opponent 6-3, 6-0. Ariel Madatali and Kasia Treiber followed with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, both with scores of 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the match for the Illini.
The result set up a quarterfinal match against the No. 2 seed Ohio State scheduled for Thursday.
