Four members of the Illinois Fighting Illini women's tennis team have been awarded All-Big Ten honors, as announced by the league office. Recognized for their performances were Megan Heuser, McKenna Schaefbauer, Ariel Madatali, and Kasia Treiber.
McKenna Schaefbauer, playing in the No. 1 singles position, received her first all-conference recognition. Schaefbauer, a junior from Normal, Illinois, finished the regular season with a 14-15 record in singles and a 17-12 record in doubles, including a 10-2 result in Big Ten matches.
Senior Megan Heuser, competing in both the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles positions, was named to the All-Big Ten team for the second consecutive year. Heuser, from Lindenhurst, Illinois, concluded the regular season with a 14-11 singles record and a 15-16 mark in doubles. Heuser has achieved five nationally ranked victories alongside partners Kida Ferrari and Alice Xu.
Ariel Madatali, a freshman from St. Louis, Missouri, became the first player from Illinois to be named to the Big Ten's inaugural All-Freshman Team. Madatali led the team with a 17-8 singles record and finished 5-7 in doubles competition.
Kasia Treiber, a senior from Hinsdale, Illinois, was honored with a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, marking the second time she has received this accolade. Treiber ended the regular season with a 12-14 singles record and a 17-15 result in doubles matches.
In response to the expansion of the Big Ten Conference, the league has adjusted its all-conference honors, establishing two 12-person teams and introducing a 10-player All-Freshman Team.
