Track and field athletes excel at Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville

The University of Illinois track and field teams completed their participation in the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, on April 19, 2025. Among the standout performances, Phethisang Makhethe achieved a notable second place on the hammer throw leaderboard for the program. Makhethe's throw of 65.46 meters placed her third in the competition.

Jordan Koskondy also excelled in the event, securing the fifth position with a 64.80-meter throw, marking the third-best in the program's records.

In the women's high jump invitation, both Bara Sajdokova and Rose Yeboah cleared 1.78 meters, resulting in a tie for second place. Viktor Morozov earned a bronze medal in the triple jump with a leap of 15.70 meters. Llyric Driscoll claimed third place in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14 seconds flat.

In other events, Will Rezny secured a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 18.04 meters, and Tadeas Placek completed the 800-meter invitational section in ninth place with a time of 1:48.13. The men's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Jackson Gilbert, Tadeas Placek, Dewayne Johnson, and Alex Ornelas, finished 15th with a time of 3:09.28.

The track and field teams will continue their outdoor season with a home meet, the Fighting Illini Twilight, on April 26 at Demirjian Park.
