Illinois women's tennis team secures 4-0 victory over Indiana

Illinois women's tennis team achieved a 4-0 victory at Indiana, marking their sixth win of the season, in a sweep during a match held in Bloomington. This win is the fourth road triumph of the year for the team, improving their overall season record to 12-11 and 7-5 in Big Ten play.

Following this match, Indiana’s record stands at 8-14 overall with a 2-10 record within the Big Ten conference. Illinois has now won its last three matches against Indiana.

The Fighting Illini secured the doubles point early, marking their 15th win this season in that format, with Illinois claiming the first point in nine Big Ten matches this year. Violeta Martinez and Alice Xu won their match 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, bringing their season record to 12-5 and 7-3 in the conference. The duo of McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber secured a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, improving to 16-12 for the season and 9-2 in Big Ten matchups.

Violeta Martinez also led the way in singles play, winning her match 6-1, 6-4 at the second singles position, thus improving her overall record to 11-7. Ariel Madatali then extended Illinois' lead with a win at No. 4 singles with two 6-3 set wins, marking her record at 17-8 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Kasia Treiber clinched the match victory for Illinois by closing out a three-set match at No. 5 singles with a scoreline of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, improving to 11-14 overall.

The other singles matches at the No. 1, 3, and 6 positions were left unfinished. With this result, the final match score was Illinois 4, Indiana 0.

The Fighting Illini will conclude their regular season against No. 60 Purdue on Sunday at 11 a.m. Central Time.
