Illinois tennis team ends home season with win over Penn State

Illinois marked the close of its home tennis season with a strong 4-0 victory over Penn State at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex. Celebrating seniors Mathis Debru and Gabrielius Guzauskas, the Fighting Illini halted a three-match losing streak, improving their record to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten Conference. The Nittany Lions remained winless in conference play, with their record falling to 12-13 overall and 0-11 in league matches.

The doubles point was secured by the Illini with victories at positions No. 1 and No. 3. Notably, Kenta Miyoshi and Mathis Debru debuted as partners in Big Ten play at the top doubles spot, clinching a 6-1 win over Penn State's Charl Morgan and Marcus Schoeman. Max Mroz and Jeremy Zhang added to the score with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

In the singles competition, Debru extended Illinois' lead with a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory over Nolan Ranger at No. 5 singles. Miyoshi followed with a straight-sets win at the top singles position, defeating Charl Morgan 6-3, 6-3.

Max Mroz concluded the match with his first career clinch at No. 6 singles, beating Denys Forgaci 6-1, 6-4. This secured the final 4-0 point for Illinois.

Looking ahead, Illinois will conclude the regular season with matches against new conference members Oregon and Washington, beginning with a match against the Ducks on Friday.
