The Illini women's golf team triumphed at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, finishing as team champions at the Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team delivered a collective final round score of 298 (+10).
"I’m excited for the team as we have made significant strides this spring," said head coach Renee Slone. "We have put ourselves in some excellent positions the last couple of tournaments and learned from those experiences. We played well yesterday afternoon especially on the back nine. The team remained resilient throughout today’s challenging conditions."
This victory marks Illinois' first team title since winning the 2023 Big Ten Championships at Fox Chapel Golf Club.
Anna Ritter achieved a career-best fourth-place finish at 1-under (215), concluding with a round of 73 (+1) and leading the team in both par 3 (-1, 2.92) and par 4 (E, 4.00) scoring averages. Ritter also led the field with 42 pars over the tournament.
Yurang Li finished tied for ninth after posting a 78 (+6) in her final round, totaling a 4-over (220) score. She achieved the team-high of nine birdies during the event.
Victoria Zheng ended tied for 16th at 6-over (222) with a third-round score of 74 (+2). Lexanne Halama was tied for 18th at 7-over (223) after a final round of 76 (+4). Brielle Mapanao closed tied for 48th at 14-over (230) with a 75 (+3), her lowest round of the tournament.
Competing individually, Erica Lee finished tied for 28th at 9-over (225), carding a final round of 77 (+5).
Illinois State’s Elise Fennell won individual honors with a score of 7-under (209).
The Fighting Illini will next compete at the Big Ten Championships on April 18 at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
