The University of Illinois men's golf team is preparing to compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational scheduled for April 5-6 at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The team, which is currently ranked 13th in the NCAA Division I team rankings and 12th in the GCAA's Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, recently claimed victory at the Memphis Intercollegiate and will enter the upcoming event with momentum.
The Invitational will be held at the Forest Hills Golf Club, the home course of the Augusta Jaguars, and a historic site designed by Donald Ross and renovated by the Arnold Palmer Company in 2004. The course measures 7,086 yards with a par-72 layout and is known for its southern landscape and distinguished trees.
The format of the tournament consists of 54 holes over two days in a five-count-four format. It begins with 36 holes on Saturday, followed by the final round on Sunday. The participating field includes 15 teams, seven of which are ranked in the top 40 nationally. Besides Illinois, top teams like Texas, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, and Arizona will compete. The host team Augusta University, along with others, round out the field.
Illinois has a strong history at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, participating 14 times since 2010, with team victories in 2016 and 2018, and near wins in 2015 and 2023. Standout senior Jackson Buchanan will compete for the fourth time, having placed top 10 in two of his three prior appearances. Other team members include junior Ryan Voois, alongside sophomores Max Herendeen and Ethan Wilson.
The stakes for individual players are high, with the tournament champion earning entry into the PGA TOUR's 2025 3M Open.
Comprehensive live scoring will be accessible online via GolfStat.com, and updates will follow the competition at FightingIllini.com. The team’s regular season will conclude with an appearance at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational later this month.
