In a tennis match held in Ann Arbor, the Illinois women's team fell to the No. 3 ranked Michigan with a scoreline of 4-0. This match marked Illinois' first visit to the Varsity Tennis Center since 2022. Illinois, currently ranked No. 48, now holds an 8-10 overall record and is 3-4 in Big Ten conference play. Michigan, on the other hand, improved their season record to 14-3 and remains unbeaten in the conference at 7-0.

The match began with doubles, where Illinois' duo of McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber managed the team's only successful set with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. "The Illini duo picked up three breaks en route to their 12th win when working together this season," as noted, also advancing their conference record to 5-1.

Despite this early success, Michigan secured the overall victory by winning the next three crucial matches, completing the match with a 4-0 lead. The final results highlighted Michigan's strong showing with doubles and singles wins at No. 6, No. 2, and No. 4 positions, respectively.

The individual match scores reflect Michigan's depth, including Jessica Bernales' 6-3, 6-4 win over Kasia Treiber, and No. 22 Piper Charney's straight-set win 6-4, 6-3 against Megan Heuser. Meanwhile, the matches involving Schaefbauer, Violeta Martinez, and Ariel Madatali remained unfinished.

"The match duration was recorded at 2 hours and 31 minutes and was played indoors at the Varsity Tennis Center," indicating a competitive setting.

Looking forward, Illinois prepares to face No. 73 Michigan State on Sunday, with the match commencing at 9 a.m. CT. As the team continues its season, these Big Ten encounters remain crucial for improving their standings.
